Letting a Women: Never Dare to do That
In Roald Dahl´s story Lamb to Slaughter there is women called Mary who loves her husband but Patrick the husband decides to let her for another women and he does not care. Mary looses her mind and hits Patrick with a Lamb and kills him. She then realizes she kill him and makes up plan to not get blame of the murder of Patrick she goes and buys some things for dinner and acts very well, then she calls the police and cooks the lamb and the police eat it and the evidence dissapear forever and was not blame of the murder.
Mary is like Cruella De Vil she has the same creepy mind as her |
Roald Dahl in his story uses very strong examples of imagery and characterization which help us understand the story better without telling us just using words. One example of Imagery is
The violence of the crash, the
noise, the small table overturning, helped bring her out of he shock. She came
out slowly, feeling cold and surprised, and she stood for a while blinking at
the body, still holding the ridiculous piece of meat tight with both hands.
We can also see Characterization that are very strong to describe Mary isnatead of telling us.
All right, she told herself. So I've killed him.
This is her reaction imagine this living with you. "What Divorce". |
Lamb to the Slaughter uses strong examples of imagery and characterization what help us visualize the story without telling us she got mad or the place ended terrible they use vocabulary that make us think or imagine. The Theme of the story was to not over react to news and to take care of feelings of others if you made something that will hurt them.

No Real Feelings
The days went on and Jonas stop taking his pills an unexpected day the Elders declared unscheduled holiday. He went to find his best friend Asher and Fiona and other friends started to play a game of war. Jonas remember again the war and he feel sad, different but he knew that his friends would not known what war meant so he felt sorrow for them. At the end of the day his father said that tomorrow they will be releasing a two twins one for the community and other for elsewhere. Jonas went to ask the Giver have ever think of release and he told him that yes. He started to tell him abo
ut the old receiver of memories. She was Rosemary, the Giver had gave her many memories of war, poverty, hunger etc. She could not handle it anymore so asked to be released and the memories came back to the people and the society was tormented with all those feelings. The Giver told Jonas that if he wanted to see the realese of today of the twins and he said yes. He started seeing it and he saw that his parent put a needle in the head of the baby, then the baby end paralized and he put it in box and said bye-bye. Jonas learned that realese means death and the Giver knew it because he saw how Rosemary was killed. He could not go back to his home and they started to create a plan so people can get back the memories, Jonas will escape to Elsewhere in midnight and the Giver is goingto give him some memories, the Giver tells Jonas that Rosemary was her daughter.
After Jonas knows what is realese he tells the Giver that he can't go back to his home. So the Giver tells him that he can stay that night in the Annex. So he tell a quote that I made the analysis of the theme of The Importance of Memories.
The Giver grasped his sholders firmly.Jonas fell silent and stared at him.
"Listen to me, Jonas. They can help it. They know nothing."
"You said that to me once before."
"I said it because it's true. It's the way they live. It's the life that was created for them. It's the same life that you would have, if you had not been chosen as my succesor."
When I was reading I found this quote and I analyzed it. First Jonas Father did not know what he was doing and he was doing his duty so we can't blame him for what he did. But then I thought about the theme of importance of memories. Jonas' Father does not know what he is doing. He can't have real feelings or feel something if he doesn't know it. With the memories you can remeber and feel real things. But without them they haven't know, remeber so they can't feel something real. That is why memories are important to have and to remember and feel real feelings. Then I make a connection to Sparta and the Elders that the both make this thing of killing a baby or someone. In Sparta if a baby was born with some type of problem the baby was let away or killed and the elders send to kill people with no reason. The two of them have somehting similar they don't respect humans rights, they kill who ever they want. There is right of living and why then the both will take away the life of someone innocent that just started living is not fair. What do you think my dear reader.
For next week blog I will finish the book but for now I predict that Jonas is going to escpe to Elsewhere but he would have some trouble and the Chief Elder will know about it and try to stop her. Because the Giver let his microphone on.
Jonas is going to escape to a new place where there are real feelings, and is going to let a world full of lies.

Bye Bye Feelings
Jonas is learning more and more and more of the knowledge and memories. Talking about the important of choosing what you want. Trying and trying Jonas tried to make his family and friends about colors and things they don´t have. Animals existed on that society and saw the memory of an elephant being hunted terrible for him. Jonas went to tell Lilly that elephants existed once, just like her comfort object, but she did not believe him. In the Annex the Giver gave Jonas a memory of a day in the snow but memory was of pain that he broke his leg. The next day Jonas went but the Giver did not seem well and Jonas help him taking some of the pain and it was a memory of War. The Giver apologize for giving Jonas that memories and we discovered what happened to the last reciever of memories. Jonas helped Gabe to sleep he gave him memories of good things that the Giver had gave him and Gabe sleep well. At last Jonas asked the Giver his favorite memory and he gave it was Christmas and he learn of love and many others things that the Community does not has.
Jonas asked his parents if they love him and her mother said precision of language. Jonas stop taking his pills for stirrings.
While I was reading I found a part that was very sad for me. While The Giver was giving Jonas the memory of Christmas they start to talk about love. "And that it's much better to be organized the way we are now. I can see that it was a dangerous way to live." (Lowry, 126). While I was reading this many thoughts came into my mind and then I started to analize something. Why they say love can be dangerous, I know that sometimes can make things wrong but it is right to have it. Another time we can see that the government choses for them, they don't have the right of choosing. But now I realized that they not only have no real love, they don't have any real feeling they don't know them. The only real feeling in that community is fear they are govern by fear. The author tries to tell us that a society without the personal choice is not happy and it is good for everyone even if that people in there think that.
To finish this week blog I have some predictions. We will dicovered what will realase mean the author can't hide us what it means the hole novel. Then Jonas will tried to tell his family and everyone about memories and colors. Gabe will be assign to a new family or been realese. Who knows check back a new blog after while.

Without Memories ????????
Jonas
receives the new rules for his assignment. That were five but the most shocking
one is “You may lie”. The next day he went to the Annex to start his
training with The Giver. Jonas gets there and saw many books and he said that
he had never saw so many books; strange but is how the novel is. Jonas receive
his first memory of the past was of snow and of a sled, and after a while was a
sunshine. Jonas asked why there is not snow and sunshine and he explain because
of sameness. On school everyone was commenting on his training and Jonas was
happy to not doing that because he said how you described something if a person
has never seen it or touch it. We discover at the end that to see beyond is to
see in color we know this because Jonas sees Fiona’s hair changing to red. The
society sees in black and white why we don’t know. What is the problem of
seeing in color?
An example of what they see.
My
job is to transmit to you all the memories I have within in me. Memories of the
past. … “It’s not my past, not my childhood that I must transmit you.”… “It’s
the memories of the whole world,”. 77
Key … it means
that I skipped parts.
This quote makes
think to things the first a inference and the next one a connection to the
theme that is the importance memories. First my inference the people of the
past lose or get erase the memories. Then I had this question being asked that
what is the problem if they remember snow, sunshine’s, but then I asked is okay
to erase your memory and lose that moments of happiness? Now my connection with
theme, memories are important because with that we can refer to the past and
not make those errors again. Memories help us change our lives for example if
you did something wrong you remember of what you did, and won’t do it again.
But without memories we can repeat that error a million times and can’t stop
it. Preventing a war is to think in the past and to stop that because on that
million people die, families lost loved ones. I made this connection to theme
by my inference.
First of all in
my other blog I put a prediction and I think it won’t happen with what I read
and that made me very sad. Then one new prediction about the book, well two.
The first one is that he will tell someone about the training or the memories
to someone maybe Fiona, Asher or his family. Then as we saw Baby Gabe has the
same color of eyes and he would transmit some memories to him.

Something Lost...
I am still reading The Giver I have not finish the book, well after a great period of time I will finish. As every morning all family units have to tell the dreams. Jonas never dream of anything but he dream of something it was about Fiona in the House of the Old and he wanted to bathe her but she did not want it. Then her mother tell him that those feelings are called stirrings and he should take some pills that make go away the feeling. The next was the ceremony and were two days of vacations. It started with the most little until the old. The Ceremony of Twelve was the next day. Gabriel the baby was kept in the Nuturing center and did not was given to a family unit. So sad. Then it was the ceremony of twelve and Jonas´ assignment was skip, after everyone was given an job they gave Jonas his job that was the Receiver of Memories, and the chief elder said that Jonas had the hability to see beyond.
There was a part that impact me was, there was the morning ritual and Jonas tell his dream and after her mother talk with him about stirrings:
"A REMINDER THAT STIRRINGS MUST BE REPORTED IN ORDER FOR TREATMENT TO TAKE PLACE"(...) "Do I have to report it?"(...) "You did, in the dream-telling. That's enough" "But what about the treatment?" (...) "No, no," she said. "It's just the pills. You're ready for the pills, that's all. That's the treatment for Stirrings."
Key: (...) it means I skipped parts.
For me this part impact me because why they don't allow you to have those feelings. Then I haved a question how does a pill make that the feeling go away? Then I start to think about that they are taking away a part of you, you can't be yourself a change can change you. After I thought of this I became with a connection with the Truman Show when Truman realized he live in a world full of lies he start changing and never went to the old one. Why does the government needs to have a lot of control of the citizens. Then I make this question it is okay that someone take away a part of us or to tell us not to be that way".
To finish my blog I have to say that this chapters were very great but to much intrigue about why things are happening like that. A prediction that I have is that on his new job Jonas will try to change the community and its rules. Also I have another question what does the receiver of memories does?
I hope this happens.

Analyzing the Pages
As I told my dear readers I am reading The Giver and I will told a summary of what I have read from chapter 1 to 4 if you are reading it and don´t want that I ruined the novel for you don´t read it contains spoilers. The novel starts presenting Jonas the main character of the story. An airplane fly over the city and the speakers said to go inside a building immediately. After a while they said to go out of the buildings and that it´s everything fine that the pilot misunderstood his manual and that he is going to be released. Jonas is worried about December and he doesn't know what his feelings are. He went to school and his best friend Asher came late to school and everyone accepted his apology. On the night all the families have a ritual of sharing the feelings and Jonas share his feelings to his family unit that he is apprehensive. He has a discussion with his family telling him that he does not need to be worried about the ceremony of twelve was going to be okay. The next day he went to play with his friend Asher, they were throwing an apple playing but Jonas saw something changing on the apple, the apple change. He took the apple to his house to examinate it and the speakers said at loud to not take it, because everything that was part of the playground was forbidden. The next day he went to do his volunteer hours to the house of the old. He met there a friend of her age called Fiona, I think he is in love with her. Jonas went to wash Larrisa and they talk about many things but they mainly talk about the realese of Roberto.
While I was redading I found a quote that like me that was on pg. 17 "The Elders know Asher," his mother said. "They'll find the exactly the right Assigment for him, (Lowry 17). I think why the Elders known what is the correct job for someone they don't know correctly or perfectly the people of the community. They could be wrong becuase with some volunteer hours how they will exactly find a perfect job for everyone. What if they are like Jonas that don't have or know what they will want to work on. Why they don't let them choose the work they want to have becuase is your choice, is your life why they need to tell what to do with it.
That was a summary of what I have read and a quote that impact me. But talking further more I have two predictions. The first one is that on the ceremony of twelve he is going to be assign a job that he won't like and he will try to change of it, maybe on the nuturing center he will work there. He will fall in love with fiona as well as Asher and they are going to fight for her and may be released.
This is an apple but it shows indiduality becuase Jonas is different but the other ones are normal, follow every time all the things and do not express them selves and also I put this picture because it shows how individulality is represented.
